Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is frequently done in combination with family or group therapy and, when needed, psycho-pharmacology. For children, it may take the actual form of play therapy, art therapy, or several other applicable forms depending on the child's age, developmental level and diagnosis. Dr. Sapia has two certified pet therapy dogs, Keyser and Cooper, who also play a role in therapeutic services for children and adults.

Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are designed to identify and change negative thought patterns and problematic behaviors. The goal is to develop more adaptive ways of thinking, behaving and interacting in the environment. This therapy is used as a treatment for various anxiety and mood disorders such as depression, phobias, PTSD, Separation Anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Eating Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and conduct problems.

   Couples and Family Therapy

Couples and Family therapy is a form of counseling which specializes in addressing relationships. Marriage and Family Therapists can work with every combination of family relationship (whole families or couples, parents with children or individual members) to assist a family in functioning in healthier and more productive ways. Family systems theory proposes that we as individuals first learn about ourselves, our emotions and how to manage close relationships from the experience we have growing up in our family of origin. This personal experience influences how we tend to function in other relationships we may have throughout our lives. As we come to better understand ourselves in our family emotional system, we can become more flexible in our marriages, our parenting, and our work and community relationships.
